Bernard Jerard White – “B.J."

October 23rd, 1929 - July 10th, 2015

AUGUSTA - Bernard Jerard White (B.J.), age 85, resident of Augusta, Montana, passed away at his residence on July 10th, 2015, from ALS disease. B.J. was born on October 23rd, 1929, in Klama, Washington.

B.J. enlisted into the U.S. Army in 1951 and served with the 6th Army as a Military Policeman during the Korean War.  He achieved the rank of Sergeant before being honorably discharged in 1953.  He later worked for the BNSF Railway in Havre until his retirement in 1974.

B.J. loved spending time in the mountains around Augusta camping and hunting and he also enjoyed open ocean fishing in Washington.  His favorite place to camp in the mountains was at the Benchmark Wilderness Ranch and the South Fork campground out of Augusta.  He would invite family and friends to join him on his camp trips and always had an extra horse or two for them to ride.  His Appaloosa horse, Reg, was his favorite to ride because Reg was actually big enough to carry B.J. up and down the trails.  In addition to enjoyment of the outdoors, B.J. was always involved with his community.  He spent time as a member of the American Legion in Klama, Washington and Augusta, Montana.  He also ran the American Legion “Trap Shoot Club” in Augusta until 2012.

He is survived by his wife, Lois White and family, Christine Jones, Colleen Phillips, Eric Miller, Curt Miller, Bernie Miller, B.J.’s two children, Brenda and Jerry White of Oregon, Son In-Law Barry Mitchell of Oregon, two grandchildren Nick and Dylan of Oregon, Step-daughter Lana Coghill and the Fusaro family of Augusta, MT; including his very good friends Chuck Fenner, Jimmie Lee, Gus Wolf, and his Augusta friends.
