Kenneth Alden Johnson, 80, of Bynum passed away peacefully at his home in Bynum of natural causes December 26, 2016. Under the direction of Gorder-Jensen Funeral Home, funeral services will be held Friday, December 30, 2016 at the Stage Stop Inn, Choteau, MT at 11:00 AM, followed by a burial with Military Honors at Bynum Cemetery. Ken was born April 14, 1936 in Great Falls, MT, the son of Arthur and Berda Johnson. Kenneth’s family lived in Dutton, MT and he received part of his education there. He moved with his family to Bynum and graduated from Choteau High School in 1954. While in high school he played football and was the manager of the basketball team. Ken was united in marriage to Gloria “Maisie” May Vigen at the First United Methodist Church in Choteau on June 6, 1958 and the couple were blessed with three children; Danny, Diane and Darrin. Following his high school graduation he worked on the family farm before going to college for mechanics in Fargo, ND. After receiving his degree in auto mechanics he returned to the family farm. In 1957 – 1973 he worked part time as a ditch rider for the Bynum Irrigation District. In 1973 he was appointed the sole ditch rider for the Bynum Irrigation District, until 1989. Also in 1972 he was appointed as a Water Commissioner for the Teton Cooperative Reservoir, a position he held until 1993. Ken was a member of the American Angus Association and the Teton Antique Steam and Gas Association. Ken enjoyed helping with the yearly Threshing Bee that is held in Choteau. He enjoyed spending time with his children and grandchildren during birthdays and especially enjoyed going to their sporting events. He loved attending family reunions and always looked forward to the Gebhart Cousin’s monthly get-togethers. He loved farm auctions and would even “attend” them on the internet. He always had an animal to feed and enjoyed raising pigs and cattle. Kenneth is survived by his beloved spouse Gloria “Maisie” Johnson of the family home, his three children Danny (Sandra McClure) Johnson of Choteau, Diane (Neal) Collins of Bynum and Darrin (Jodi) Johnson of Bynum. His brothers William and Richard Johnson of Bynum, grandchildren; Benjamin Collins, Jeremiah Collins, Alden Johnson, Josephine Johnson and Augustus Johnson as well as three great grandchildren Skylar Collins, Bailey Collins and Tyler Collins. Kenneth was preceded in death by his parents Arthur and Berda and his grandson Luke Collins. Memorials are suggested to TASGA, Peace Hospice of Choteau or a charity of the donors choice.
