Dear Francie and Family,

Despite our delay in expressing our sympathy for your loss of Luke, please know that Ray and I send our sincere condolences to all of you.  We have the fondest memories of Luke, as he was known to us.

Before we read his obituary, Ray shared many of the same things written about in it.  Ray told me of the way the hay was put up compared to other ranchers; of going to an artificial insemination course in Bozeman and rooming with Luke; of his successful efforts in getting his sons set up on ranches on their own; of his rounds to the various places in Choteau where Ray spent some time too; and especially of Ray's great admiration for Luke's perseverance.

We have been gone from Choteau for over fifty years, but some things never change and one of those things was our friendship with Luke and Francie Salmond.  You are blessed to have had Luke Salmond as a mentor, a husband, a father, grandfather, and great-grandfather besides having a brother with other family.

Perhaps the thing that I most admired about Luke, but didn't realize until I read it, was his believe in a man's word or handshake.  I lived by that code too and can testify it's a good one to have.  I entered into such a handshake in 2003 that was the catalyst for a law signed into law by President Trump in 2019.  It's not one so much for this modern world, but one for a true cowboy like Luke Salmond.

May he rest in peace.  God bless him and you.
